For Mom

1. Important Documents:

  • ID and Insurance Card: Ensure you have your identification and insurance information.

  • Birth Plan: If you have one, bring a couple of copies to share with your medical team.

2. Clothing:

  • Comfortable Robe: A soft, cozy robe for comfort during your stay. These robes are some that I frequently see on my patients and they come with a matching swaddle for baby. These are SUPER soft and the material is nice and stretchy. Seeing them makes me want to buy one just to have.

  • Nightgown/Pajamas: Choose ones that are easy to nurse in, if you plan to breastfeed. I have 3 here that I’d like to share. These are also ones that I see the most on my patients as well.

  • This first one is a super cute lounge set that comes with loose fitting pants and a cute top that makes it easy for breastfeeding.

  • If you prefer a comfortable short set also made for breastfeeding, this one is a best seller on Amazon. Short sleeves, comfy shorts, breastfeeding friendly….you just can’t go wrong with this set.

  • And third pick would be this maternity dress nursing nightgown. Easy access for breastfeeding, yet pretty enough for a maternity photo shoot!!!!

  • Nursing Bras/Pads: If you’re planning to breastfeed, pack a couple of nursing bras. You’re going to want something that is wire-free, soft and comfy with support. These maternity bras are a great buy!! This nursing bra features wireless cup, adjustable straps, removable padding,one-step feeding clasp, and comes in different colors.

  • Don’t forget to buy nursing pads to prevent any t-shirt leaks!!! There are 2 kinds that you can buy. These washable breast pads come with a little laundry bag to keep them together because they will very easily get lost in the laundry….. trust me! If you don’t want to have to deal with washable ones, they make disposable breast pads as well!!! These are great for on the go and less laundry!!

  • Maternity Underwear: High-waisted and comfortable, ideal for post-delivery. Probably 90% of my postpartum moms LOVE a high-waisted underwear because it provides extra support to your belly. A lot of times, I hear of complaints of their belly feeling heavy, but once they put on some supportive underwear, they feel 100% better. These high-waisted underwear come in a multi-pack and different colors. For the other 10% of moms, they prefer under the bump underwear. These ones are pretty nice. They are designed for “under the bump'‘ but they also have an option to wear higher on the belly or fold down. These look pretty comfortable on my patients as well.

  • Easy slip on shoes/slippers/socks: After delivery, your feet can get a little swollen, so the flipflops you came in with, end up being too small. Socks with grips on the bottom are always a win especially in the hospital. If you do happen to get swollen, your foot would still fit in your sock and these will also keep your feet nice and warm.

  • Going-Home Outfit: Something loose and comfortable, as you’ll likely still have a postpartum belly.

3. Toiletries:

  • Toothbrush and Toothpaste

  • Hairbrush and Hair Ties

  • Lip Balm: Hospitals can be dry, and lip balm is a lifesaver.

  • Skincare Products: Face wash, moisturizer, etc.

  • Shower Essentials: Shampoo, conditioner, body wash, loofah, washcloth, etc.

  • Deodorant

  • Glasses/Contacts: If you wear them.

  • Peribottle: Hospitals do provide this, but I’ve seen some of my patients with fancier ones, like this Frida Mom Upside down peri-bottle.

4. Personal Items:

  • Phone and Charger: You’ll want to capture those first moments and stay in touch with loved ones.

  • Pillow/Favorite Blanket: Why not be comfortable and bring your own pillow ….and if you have a favorite blanket that you can’t sleep without….bring it along as well. Sleep and napping will be ESSENTIAL!!!

  • Entertainment: Books, magazines, or a tablet for downtime…….wait. . . what downtime???

  • Earbuds/Headphones or Small Bluetooth Speaker: To listen to music or podcasts.

  • Oil Diffuser: Who doesn’t love walking in to an amazing smelling yet calming room? This oil diffuser is one that come in a lot and the rooms smell soooooo good.

5. Snacks and Drinks:

  • Healthy Snacks: Think granola bars, nuts, dried fruit.

  • Water Bottle: Staying hydrated is crucial.
